Red Velvet Cake

This is another one from our lover of All Things Indian: Judi from the US

Recipe for Red Velvet Cake

Judi Writes:
*Caution, please remember to put in the eggs. Otherwise one ends up with a pan of RED BRICKS instead. Trust me, my ex. did it.* ;-)

Ingredients:
  1. 1 1/2 cup sugar
  2. 1/2 cup of shortening
  3. *2 eggs*
  4. 1 tablespoon of coco
  5. 1 teaspoon of salt
  6. 1 cup buttermilk
  7. 2 ounces of red food coloring
  8. 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  9. 1 tablespoon of vinegar
  10. 1 teaspoon of baking soda

Directions:
  1. Mix the sugar and shortening together until it is creamy
  2. Add egg and beat well
  3. Sift flour, coco, salt, add to above mix, alternately with the buttermilk and beat well
  4. Add red food coloring and vanilla and beat well
  5. Mix vinegar and baking soda and fold into the batter
  6. Pour into a 9X13 pan
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes

Simple, easy, not any complicated ingredients (except for red food coloring and you can get most any color I assume). Not long to prepare, and easy in the oven.

Note To All NEW Cooks:
When directions call for an oven at tempertures in the oven, the oven should always be preheated (approx. 10-15 minutes) BEFORE putting in the cake or whatever.
